As previous reviewers have noted, Orsara Bormida is the perfect vacation spot if you’re looking for total peace and quiet, friendly and helpful neighbors, and a stunning view from the kitchen and terrace.
In addition, there are some really great bike rides in the area. Be aware, however, of some potholes in the roads.
For example, Route 456 from Aqui Terme to Nizza and back via Fontanile is a really beautiful ride with not much traffic (September).
A small, unique spot for pure relaxation. There’s not much going on in the area. About 1.3 km down the hill, there’s a small shop with a limited selection and the local bar. Good shopping options in Acqui Terme. Don’t forget to visit Asti and Barolo as well.
The house is located in a village of 80 residents up on the mountainside. We were met with great hospitality and friendly neighbors—luckily we speak French, because we didn’t meet anyone who spoke English.
In terms of location, it’s a slight drawback that you have to drive everywhere. A location in Orsara Bormida, Trisobbio, or Montaldo Bormida itself would have earned 5 stars, as you could then shop and visit the local castles, restaurants, and wineries (Cantina) on foot.
A great starting point for excursions to the wine regions (Asti, Barolo, Barbaresco, and the local Barbera and Dolcetto wines), market days in Acqui Terme, and the outlet mall in Serravalle. The major cities of Genoa, Turin, and Milan are also within reach for a day trip.
Be sure to try the local specialties such as Farinata (chickpeas) and amaretti (almond cookies).
Huge plus for A/C, Wi-Fi, and Chromecast, especially for our younger guests.
Nice house, nice neighbors, very quiet in a small village, fantastic view of the sunset from the terrace.
Ideal if you want to explore Genoa, the Riviera, Barolo, and Alba during the same vacation, as they are all about an hour’s drive away. In the area, Canyon, Aqua Terma, and Sibosia—with their outdoor pools and a superb restaurant—are highly recommended. And if you’re looking for peace and relaxation, this is the place to be.
An incredibly charming vacation home located in a local area where you can truly experience the authentic and exceptionally beautiful Piedmont. The view from the terrace and kitchen is like something out of a specially selected postcard, featuring small towns on mountaintops, vineyards, landscapes, and in the morning even distant mountains with snow-capped peaks. There are many interesting excursion options to wineries, hiking areas, and small towns. A hike to the Canyon, 16 km from the property, is highly recommended—here you can hike along trails and cliffs beside a small river, where you can dip your toes in the water or take a swim if you’d like. Exploring the local wine and cuisine is a chapter unto itself, so we’ve included several recommendations in the guestbook.
A beautiful, well-appointed, and comfortable home in peaceful rural surroundings. Lovely terrace and stunning views.
A lovely vacation home with plenty of space—and stunning views of the vineyards, where you can enjoy a breathtaking sunset from the terrace every day. It’s sunny pretty much all day long—and the location is truly authentic, nestled in an Italian mountain and wine region. Good shopping options nearby (3–12 km)—so you have everything your heart desires :-). It’s very cozy to shop locally in the small shops.
The kitchen opens onto the terrace.
A vacation home we can recommend—though probably best suited for adults.
A fantastic little gem with a lovely terrace and beautiful views, offering sunshine all day long and stunning sunsets. The house is well-appointed. High ceilings and spacious rooms. The kitchen opens onto the terrace and has everything you need. Located 3 km from the nearest shops and surrounded by vineyards and wineries. Situated in an authentic little Italian village—with very friendly neighbors. Highly recommended.
