Baveno

The area around Lake Maggiore offers a wealth of activities: Val Grande National Park, located just 10 km away, provides excellent opportunities for hiking and trekking and is Italy’s largest wilderness area. There are also four golf courses in the area, of which the 18-hole Golf Club des Iles Borromees near Stresa/Baveno is particularly recommended.

The lake itself naturally offers a range of activities, such as boat trips, water sports, diving, and, not least, fishing—fishing licenses can be purchased at post offices. In addition, a visit to the Borromean Islands just off Baveno is a must, where the counts of the Borromeo family created their own little paradises 400 years ago.

We had a lovely stay in week 29. It was really nice having two bedrooms and two bathrooms when you have older kids. A charming town, a short distance from the lake and the public beach at Villa Fedora, where you can easily find shade. Really delicious pinsa at La Bottega Food & Wine – Piazza Matteotti 1, Baveno, and the food is generally good (remember to book a table at the various places. A lovely and scenic bike ride up Mottarone (bikes get through the toll gate for free (cars 10 euros), a great spot to fill your water bottle at the spring just after you’ve passed through Levo.

  2. Line Hedegaard

My second stay in Baveno—and I’ll definitely be back! A balcony with a fantastic view, just a short walk from the lake, and in a neighborhood with some really great places to eat. We had truly lovely, sunny, and warm weather at the end of May. I’m already looking forward to my next stay.

  3. Peter Westberg

A very nice and well-equipped apartment located about 1.5 km from the lake and downtown. Free parking.

  4. Finn Hedegaard Larsen

A really nice vacation rental with plenty of space, located within walking distance of the town, beach, and shopping. It’s great to have two bathrooms when staying in the apartment as a family. The area offers plenty of outing options for both adults and children.

  5. Bjarne Nielsen

We stayed there during Easter 2024. The apartment is well-appointed and comfortably accommodates two couples and one child, with a separate area for one of the couples. It has a gas stove, so you don’t have to worry about power outages. The area is very beautiful; unfortunately, the weather wasn’t on our side—it rained quite a bit. We found some great indoor activities, including the nearby padel center and the art museum in Verbania.

Baveno is a really lovely place. We were there in mid-March, and spring was just around the corner. Of course, not all attractions are open at that time of year, but the weather was perfectly fine for spending time outdoors, even in the cooler spots during the day. However, we needed heating in the evenings (which was a bit of a struggle). During this off-season period, you really get a lot for your money.
